  Veneracea \Ven`e*ra"ce*a\, prop. n. pl. [NL. See {Venus}.]
     (Zool.)
     An extensive tribe of bivalve mollusks of which the genus
     {Venus} is the type. The shells are usually oval, or somewhat
     heartshaped, with a conspicuous lunule. See {Venus}.
