  Skiver \Skiv"er\, n. [Cf. {Skewer}, {Shiver} a fragment.]
     1. An inferior quality of leather, made of split sheepskin,
        tanned by immersion in sumac, and dyed. It is used for hat
        linings, pocketbooks, bookbinding, etc.
