  Phlorone \Phlo"rone\, n. [Phlorol + quinone.] (Chem.)
     A yellow crystalline substance having a peculiar unpleasant
     odor, resembling the quinones, and obtained from beechwood
     tar and coal tar, as also by the oxidation of xylidine; --
     called also {xyloquinone}.
