        {wolverene} and {carcajou}. It was formerly believed to be
        inordinately voracious, whence the name. It is a native of
        the northern parts of America, Europe, and Asia.

     {Wolf}, with a dim suffix; prob. so called from its supposed
     wolfish qualities.]
