  Charivari \Cha*ri`va*ri"\, n. [F.]
     A mock serenade of discordant noises, made with kettles, tin
     horns, etc., designed to annoy and insult; -- called also
     {shivaree}.
  
     Syn: shivaree, charivari, callithump, callathump.
