     A bitter, brownish yellow, amorphous substance, extracted
     from vegetable mold, and also produced by the action of acids
     on certain sugars and carbohydrates; -- called also {humic
     acid}, {ulmin}, {gein}, {ulmic} or {geic acid}, etc.
