  dirigisme \dir`i*gisme"\, n. [L. dirigere to direct.]
     The practice or inclination to direct (activities) by a
     central authority; as, the linguistic dirigisme of
     prescriptivists clashes with the modern tendency toward
     acceptance of multiculturalism. See also {dirigiste}.
