  Slag \Slag\ (sl[a^]g), n. [Sw. slagg, or LG. slacke, whence G.
     schlacke; originally, perhaps, the splinters struck off from
     the metal by hammering. See {Slay}, v. t.]
     1. The dross, or recrement, of a metal; also, vitrified
        cinders.
