  Zygophyte \Zy"go*phyte\, n. [Gr. zygo`n a yoke + fyto`n a
     plant.] (Bot.)
     Any plant of a proposed class or grand division (Zygophytes,
     Zygophyta, or Zygosporeae), in which reproduction consists in
     the union of two similar cells. Cf. {Oophyte}.
