  Zinnia \Zin"ni*a\, n. [NL. So called after Professor Zinn, of
     G["o]ttingen.] (Bot.)
     Any plant of the composite genus {Zinnia}, Mexican herbs with
     opposite leaves and large gay-colored blossoms. {Zinnia
     elegans} is the commonest species in cultivation.
