  Zein \Ze"in\, n. [Cf. F. z['e]ine. See {Zea}.] (Chem.)
     A nitrogenous substance of the nature of gluten, obtained
     from the seeds of Indian corn ({Zea}) as a soft, yellowish,
     amorphous substance. [Formerly written {zeine}.]
