     A modern transliteration of the Hebrew word translated
     {Jehovah} in the Bible; -- used by some critics to
     discriminate the tribal god of the ancient Hebrews from the


     Christian Jehovah. Yahweh or {Yahwe} is the spelling now
     generally adopted by scholars.
