  Whitethroat \White"throat`\, n. (Zool.)
     Any one of several species of Old World warblers, esp. the
     common European species ({Sylvia cinerea}), called also
     {strawsmear}, {nettlebird}, {muff}, and {whitecap}, the
     {garden whitethroat}, or {golden warbler} ({Sylvia
     hortensis}), and the {lesser whitethroat} ({Sylvia curruca}).
