  Tympano \Tym"pa*no\, n.; pl. {Tympani}. [It. timpano. See
     {Tympanum}.] (Mus.)
     A kettledrum; -- chiefly used in the plural to denote the
     kettledrums of an orchestra. See {Kettledrum}. [Written also
     {timpano}.]
