  Phryganeides \Phryg`a*ne"i*des\, n. pl. [NL., fr. Phryganea, the
     typical genus, fr. Gr. ? a dry stick.] (Zool.)
     A tribe of neuropterous insects which includes the caddice
     flies; -- called also {Trichoptera}. See {Trichoptera}.

     A suborder of Neuroptera usually having the wings covered
     with minute hairs. It comprises the caddice flies, and is
     considered by some to be a distinct order.
