  Torula \Tor"u*la\, n.; pl. {Torulae} [NL., dim. of L. torus a
     semicircular molding.] (Biol.)
     (a) A chain of special bacteria.
     (b) A genus of budding fungi. Same as {Saccharomyces}. Also
         used adjectively.
