  Taeniosomi \Tae`ni*o*so"mi\, n. pl. [NL., fr. Gr. taini`a ribbon
     + sw^ma body.] (Zool.)
     An order of fishes remarkable for their long and compressed
     form. The ribbon fishes are examples. See {Ribbon fish},
