     NL. Synantherae the Compositae; Gr. sy`n with + 'anqh`ros
     blooming.] (Chem.)
     A variety of sugar, isomeric with sucrose, found in the
     tubers of the Jerusalem artichoke ({Helianthus tuberosus}),
     in the dahlia, and other Compositae.
