  Sycones \Sy*co"nes\, n. pl. [NL., fr. Gr. ? a fig.] (Zool.)
     A division of calcareous sponges.

           fringed opening at the summit. The feeding cells are in


           ampullae connected with radial tubes in the thickened
           walls of the body.
