  Strontia \Stron"ti*a\, n. [NL. strontia, fr. Strontian, in
     Argyleshire, Scotland, where strontianite was first found.]
     (Chem.)
     An earth of a white color resembling lime in appearance, and
     baryta in many of its properties. It is an oxide of the metal
     strontium.
