  Stegnotic \Steg*no"tic\, a. [Gr. stegnwtiko`s, fr. stegnoy^n to
     cover, to make costive, fr. stegno`s, stegano`s, covered,
     closed.] (Med.)
     Tending to render costive, or to diminish excretions or
     discharges generally. -- n. A stegnotic medicine; an
     astringent.
