     (Zool.)
     A New Zealand lizard, which, in anatomical character, differs
     widely from all other existing lizards. It is the only living
     representative of the order {Rhynchocephala}, of which many
     Mesozoic fossil species are known; -- called also


     {Sphenodon}, {tuatara}, and {Tuatera}.
