  Soapwort \Soap"wort`\, n. (Bot.)
     A common plant ({Saponaria officinalis}) of the Pink family;
     -- so called because its bruised leaves, when agitated in
     water, produce a lather like that from soap. Called also
     {Bouncing Bet}.
