     1. (Anat.) The external membranous integument of an animal.

           of two layers, an outer nonsensitive and nonvascular
           epidermis, cuticle, or skarfskin, composed of cells
           which are constantly growing and multiplying in the

           cutis, corium, or true skin, composed mostly of
           connective tissue.
