  Skean \Skean\, n. [Ir sgian; akin to Gael. sgian, W. ysgien a
     large knife, a scimiter.]
     A knife or short dagger, esp. that in use among the
     Highlanders of Scotland. [Variously spelt.] "His skean, or
     pistol." --Spenser.
