     regions, the north, fr. septentriones the seven stars near
     the north pole, called Charles's Wain, or the Great Bear,
     also those called the Little Bear; properly, the seven plow
     oxen; septem seven + trio, orig., a plow ox: cf. F.
     septentrion.]
