  Semibreve \Sem"i*breve`\, n. [Pref. semi- + breve: cf. F.
     semi-breve, It. semibreve.] [Formerly written {semibref}.]
     (Mus.)
     A note of half the time or duration of the breve; -- now
     usually called a whole note. It is the longest note in
     general use.
