  Squinch \Squinch\ (skw[i^]nch), n. [Corrupted fr. sconce.]
     (Arch.)
     A small arch thrown across the corner of a square room to
     support a superimposed mass, as where an octagonal spire or
     drum rests upon a square tower; -- called also {sconce}, and
     {sconcheon}.
