From Bouvier's Law Dictionary, Revised 6th Ed (1856) [bouvier]:

  SCYREGEMOTE. The name of a court among the Saxons. It was the court of the 
  shire, in Latin called curia comitatus, and the principal court among the 
  Saxons. It was holden twice a year for determining all causes both 
  ecclesiastical and secular.
