  Roundel \Roun"del\, n. [OF. rondel a roundelay, F. rondel,
     rondeau, a dim. fr. rond; for sense 2, cf. F. rondelle a
     round, a round shield. See {Round}, a., and cf. {Rondel},
     {Rondelay}.]
