  Rein \Rein\, v. t. [imp. & p. p. {Reined} (r?nd); p. pr. & vb.
     n. {Reining}.]
     1. To govern or direct with the reins; as, to rein a horse
        one way or another.

            moderate or cease some activity deemed excessive.
