     pr. & vb. n. {Raffing}.] [OF. raffer, of German origin; cf.
     G. raffen; akin to E. rap to snatch. See {Rap}, and cf.
     {Riffraff}, {Rip} to tear.]
     To sweep, snatch, draw, or huddle together; to take by a
