  Pyrone \Py`rone\, n. [G. pyron, an abbr. of pyrokoman.] (Org.
     Chem.)
     An unsaturated cyclic compound, {C5H4O2}, of which two
     varieties are known, [alpha] and [gamma]. [gamma]-pyrone is
     the parent substance of several natural yellow dyestuffs.
