Pretty \Pret"ty\, a. [Compar. {Prettier}; superl. {Prettiest}.]

pr[ae]t, pr[ae]tt, deceit, trickery, Icel. prettugr tricky,
prettr a trick; probably fr. Latin, perhaps through Celtic;
cf. W. praith act, deed, practice, LL. practica execution,
