  Prescutum \Pre*scu"tum\, n.; pl. {Prescuta}. [NL. See {Pr[ae]-},
     and {Scutum}.] (Zool.)
     The first of the four pieces composing the dorsal part, or
     tergum, of a thoracic segment of an insect. It is usually
     small and inconspicuous.
