  Praenomen \Pr[ae]*no"men\, n.; pl. {Pr[ae]nomina}. [L., fr. prae
     before + nomen name.] (Rom. Antiq.)
     The first name of a person, by which individuals of the same
     family were distinguished, answering to our Christian name,
     as Caius, Lucius, Marcus, etc.
