  Pollex \Pol"lex\, n.; pl. {Pollices}. [the thumb.] (Anat.)
     The first, or preaxial, digit of the fore limb, corresponding
     to the hallux in the hind limb; the thumb. In birds, the
     pollex is the joint which bears the bastard wing.
