[NL. phototaxis; photo- + Gr. ? an arranging.] (Biol.) The influence of light on the movements of low organisms, as various infusorians, the zoospores of certain alg[ae], etc.; also, the tendency to follow definite directions of motion or assume definite positions under such influence.
