  Phosphinic \Phos*phin"ic\ (f[o^]s*f[i^]n"[i^]k), a. (Chem.)
     Pertaining to, or designating, certain acids analogous to the
     phosphonic acids, but containing two hydrocarbon radicals,
     and derived from the secondary phosphines by oxidation.
