     vb. n. {Pertaining}.] [OE. partenen, OF. partenir, fr. L.
     pertinere to stretch out, reach, pertain; per + tenere to
     hold, keep. See {Per-}, and {Tenable}, and cf. {Appertain},
     {Pertinent}.]
