     pater father + pati, passus, to suffer: cf. F.
     patripassiens.] (Eccl. Hist.)
     One of a body of believers in the early church who denied the
     independent pre["e]xistent personality of Christ, and who,
     accordingly, held that the Father suffered in the Son; a
