     {Paring}.] [F. parer to pare, as a horse's hoofs, to dress or
     curry, as, leather, to clear, as anchors or cables, to parry,
     ward off, fr. L. parare to prepare. Cf. {Empire}, {Parade},
     {Pardon}, {Parry}, {Prepare}.]
