  Oxindol \Ox*in"dol\, n. [Oxygen + indol.] (Chem.)
     A white crystalline nitrogenous substance ({C8H7NO}) of the
     indol group, obtained by the reduction of dioxindol. It is a
     so-called lactam compound.
