  Ortygan \Or"ty*gan\, n. [Gr. ?, ?, a quail.] (Zool.)
     One of several species of East Indian birds of the genera
     {Ortygis} and {Hemipodius}. They resemble quails, but lack
     the hind toe. See {Turnix}.
