     ophthalmie, L. ophthalmia, fr. Gr. 'ofqalmi`a, fr. 'ofqalmo`s
     the eye, akin to E. optic. See {Optic}.] (Med.)
     An inflammation of the membranes or coats of the eye or of
     the eyeball.
