  Oogonium \O`o*go"ni*um\, n.; pl. L. {Oogonia}, E. {Oogoniums}.
     [NL., fr. Gr. w,'o`n an egg + ? offspring.] (Bot.)
     A special cell in certain cryptogamous plants containing
     oospheres, as in the rockweeds ({Fucus}), and the orders
     {Vaucherieae} and {Peronosporeae}.
