  Nard \Nard\ (n[aum]rd), n. [AS., fr. L. nardus, Gr. na`rdos; cf.
     Heb. n[^e]rd, Per. nard, Scr. nalada.]
     1. (Bot.) An East Indian plant ({Nardostachys Jatamansi}) of
        the Valerian family, used from remote ages in Oriental
        perfumery.
