     (Med.)
     A disease producing a peculiar cretinoid appearance of the
     face, slow speech, and dullness of intellect, and due to
     failure of the functions of the thyroid gland. [Also spelled
     {myxedema}.]-- {Myx`oe*dem"a*tous}, a., {Myx`oe*dem"ic}, a.
