  Monogenesis \Mon`o*gen"e*sis\, n. [Mono- + genesis.]
     1. Oneness of origin; esp. (Biol.), development of all beings
        in the universe from a single cell; -- opposed to
        {polygenesis}. Called also {monism}. --Dana. --Haeckel.
