  Metrosideros \Met`ro*si*de"ros\, n. [NL., fr. Gr. ? heart of a
     tree + ? iron.] (Bot.)
     A myrtaceous genus of trees or shrubs, found in Australia and
     the South Sea Islands, and having very hard wood.
     {Metrosideros vera} is the true ironwood.
